Dems In House Pass Massive Hike in Debt Ceiling

In an act of massive stupidity, the Democratic majority voted 217-212 to increase the debt ceiling to $14,294,000,000,000.00. This will lead to fiscal suicide, especially AFTER the rumble in Massachusetts that led to the election of Scott Brown on two major reasons...he would vote to stop the nationalization of health care industry and he would do his best to be a Fiscal Conservative. This will be the beginning of the the swell...that sweeps away the Democratic majority in both houses, especially if the Senate passes the same bill...through the reconciliation process.

In 1939, Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau's quote of 1939 , "We are spending more money than we have ever spent before, and it does not work. After eight years we have just as much unemployment as when we started, and an enormous debt to boot" This kind of votes by Pelosi, et al, make me wonder about the basic sanity of the Democratic party's leadership in Congress.

UPDATE: It was pointed out in the comments that the GOP controlled the budgetary process for six years, here's a graph that shows the budget deficits that were in existence during that time as well as what was PROJECTED for 2009 through 2019:

Now, this is out of date, because the proposed budget deficit for this is is $1,560,000,000,000.00. Last years deficit was higher than the 2002-2007, when the Democratic party took control of Congress...While Mr. Obama proposes a freeze on spending for non-defense/non-descretionary spending...that freeze is based upon THIS years budget which has 10% increase over 2010's budget, which in turn was 20% higher than 2008...Now, what part of Mr. Morgenthau's statement doesn't apply to today?

Well, we just disagree on this. For one thing, blaming the Democrats for the debt overlooks the fact that the Republicans ran the White House and Congress for six year when the debt was building. Secondly, your Morgenthau quote is from 1939 . . . the end of the Great Depression. There had been a lot of federal spending then in order to put people to work to keep them from starving.

But the First Amendment is my favorite amendment. I appreciate your article and I hope that my comment isn't too argumentative.

Could it be that they are intentionally trying to destroy the economy and the country? The sooner we vote these people out, the better!

Excellent article though all that number crunching gave me a mild ringing in the brain!

But all those supporting numbers showed one thing very clearly that such people are responsible for economic killing of a country !!

While my gig is overcoming alcoholism by the power of God as in early A.A., I enjoy the diversity of subjects and think the foregoing is timely and important.

I love the way during the campaign Obama said McCain wants to propose a freeze and freezes don't work. (Oct 08 debate) Now Obama wants a freeze after all the increased spending hikes since he has taken office. LOL Good article, keep them coming. Linda D

As soon as our government figures out that you can't spend what you don't have, the better off we'll all be. Okay, I know it will be painful for a while, but really are we going mad here?

Indeed, Val. Write your Congressman, yes, actually send a something via the USPS...they pay far more attention to those than anything else.  Tell them what you think.  10 snail mails are worth 500 emails...etc.

This is probably too much for you to understand, but since you enjoy pictures, Mr. Vail, Here's another one for you: http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/documents/2010/02/house-speaker-nancy-pelosi-compares-job-losses-under-presidents-obama-and-bush.php?page=1

I know you won't give credit to President Obama for any of this, but you and your conservative cohorts were saying that the economy was doomed only a year ago, and something happened to turn it around. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money, then it's a lot easier to pay off what you owe.
