If Health Care "Reform" Passes...

To put it simply...If Mr. Obama does manage to ram through his ill-conceived health care seizures, what occured in Massachusetts will happen all over the country. He has looked down his nose at Americans openly telling us that he's not "explained this bill well enough." That's not the problem. The problem is, is that it's a terrible piece of legislation that will hobble the economy for generations. Thus it's extraordinary unpopularity.
Michael Barone of the Washington Examiner reviewed the electoral returns for all 435 Congressional Districts as well as the 34 Senators who were up for reelection in 2008. Using that data as a base line...and taking into account, he believes that 16 of the 17 Democratic Senators up for reelection will lose. Additionally, he believes that presently, there are only 103 "safe" Democratic seats in the House this years. That's out of 256 seats the Dem's currently hold. Think about that. That means there is the real possibility of a massive wave of losses for the Dem's as 153 seats in the house and 16 in the Senate would mean. A turnover of this magnitude hasn't occurred since 1816-20 when the Federalist party dissolved.
Think about it...the country overwhelmingly opposes the bills presently before Congress, by nearly 60%...if Mr. Obama, Mr. Reid and Mrs. Pelosi do ram through this bill...it will mean the destruction of the Democratic Party for at least a generation. The electorate is angry...look at the Tea Party. You can write them off as a far right wackjob, but here in blue Maryland, they are all the moderates...and mostly independent voters.
Many voted for Obama...because they thought they were getting a "pragmatic centrist," which is how he ran for president. But he's not. The media willingly painted him as such and are still schilling for his agenda. But he's lost independents by more than 2-1...think about that. Independent voters got him elected, not Democrats. Independents are fleeing the Democratic Party in droves...

Top-level comments on this article: (9 total)As a Canadian, I am fortunate to have a health plan even if I'm not working. When living in the UK - I loved the 2 tiered system (but that's because I had extended benefits, so got some extra perks that we don't get here in Canada). Having lived in the US, and knowing many Americans who are without adequate health care and therefore can't go to a dr because they can't afford it, or have had to claim bankruptcy because of a sudden health issue. It may not be the perfect system - but never is any one system perfect for everyone. I'm just thankful that if myself, my husband or my children have an issue that they need to see a dr for - that we live in a country that has that service.I am really hoping that this bill would pass in the US so that those who needed to see a dr - could. No, it doesn't affect me directly - but it breaks my heart to here of friends/family who can't afford to see a dr - and suffer the consequences of that issue.Well, the Canadian system is great...that's why your Premier came here for surgery. Here in the US, the government doesn't do ANYTHING efficiently...that's why so many oppose the legislation as proposed...that and all the backroom deals and exceptions have made it basically unworkable and utterly inefficient.
Of course, it requires Congress to "ram" it through. the president can put it forward and sign it, put it's congress who makes laws- this law is of course out side of congress's constitutional juridictionAccording to Reuters...Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Reid are planning to do just that. The "bipartisan" summit at the end of the month is only going to be about "Kabuki Theatre"...and nothing substantive will come of it. Mr. Obama has made it quite plain that the starting point for "negotiating" will be the bills as they have passed BOTH houses...and those will include ALL of the shady, behind closed door deals that have gotten the legislation this far...and therein lies the problem.
I would say good article with plenty of useful information. Good workThank you, Mark.
Thanks Rich and keep them coming - we need the lights turned on and you are one who consistently does that in my opinion. MarijoThanks Maryjo!
Excellent article Richard. Can you imagine just what is in the minds of these people. Anyone can see the cliff up ahead, but they still want to drive right over it. You would think they would at least slow down until after the November election and try to maintain a majority. But no, their arrogance makes them suicidalthank you Joel. The problem is that I don't think the Democratic leadership CAN see the cliff. You have to keep in mind that not ONE of Mr. Obama's cabinet secretaries has ANY experience in business. They have all either "worked" for the government or in academia. None have ever had to make a payroll in their entire lives. Thus, I don't believe they understand the magnitude of what they are doing.
Thank you again - you just keep hitting them out of the ball park, don't you? MarijoThanks twice, MJ!
Hi Richard.Thank you for putting this in the open. I like how you use the phrase, "ram this through" one can imagine what they are doing. Thanks again for sharing your insights. All the best to you,NenitaThanks Nenita!
Hey Richard! As always I want to thank you for sharing your views and ideas! If things are going so downhill then why don't people come up and shout ?Ravi, they have...google "the tea party" and see what you get...that's our answer to politicians who have forgotten they work for us. I had thought for a while that the Tea Party movement was going to morph into a new, fiscally conservative, socially moderate party, instead they have chosen to back politicians regardless of party. In America, we tend to be centre/right as a whole. When our politicians forget...we tend to remind them.
It is always difficult to write about politics, because someone has a different opinion, but as long as we remember that they are all out opinions and the final judgment will come at time of voting, then this is a well written article of one person's opinion and it is good to hear what the public think.Tim, isn't that what the 1st Amendment is all about? Isn't that the cornerstone of public political discourse? Take a look at Greg Lewis' writing...he writes from a far left point of view (though I don't think he is), just as I write from a far right point of view (though I am not). I always rate his work highly because he puts just as much effort and passion as I do. I don't look for content when I review an article so much as how it's written. Thus, I tend to rate much higher than many do.
